Salvage Playgrounds

If Homebush Olympic Village and 2000 Olympic Games was the beginning of Sydney’s emergence as a global city, the OPAL Tower marks the end of its puberty. So how do we make the city back towards (or forwards) into what we want it to be? We look towards the model of the theme park and the attractions, as a model to explore architectural project within context of desires, consumerism, and city making in a New Global, Post-Public and Never Ideological context - Ultimately to learn from projections of the city beyond traditional urban planning.

A proposal of urban instruments or “attractions” in this master plan or “theme park” design, the Salvage Playgrounds. People are able to go into circumstances of extreme events (linked to sydney’s prevalent issues of waste and recycling, social, cultural or political issues), where their role are transformed beyond the realms of everyday for didactical purposes.
