Production/Consumption of the Digital Landscape
What role does Architecture play in the digital age? Advances in technology have confounded traditional notions of space, with software packages allowing for the construction of immersive environments.
In the wake of these advancements, will Architecture remain a backdrop for the shadow of lived experience to be cast upon? Or, does the screen, headset, peripheral, etc... constitute a new perceptual dimension to be explored?
Both the production and consumption of space has been digitized, being primarily accessed through phones and personal computers. But, this digitization opens up possibility within the Architectural Project. Notation, process, and simultaneity have new found relevance and act as material resource to be utilized in world-making.
Architects must broaden calcified notions of disciplinarity and step into new autonomy as creators in the digital era. Otherwise, the profession will fade into the background while robotic automation takes center stage.
The choice is ours.
