How Can Architecture Contain All There is to Life?
The drawing depicts the struggle I had as a third year architecture student trying to figure out how to depict the complexity of life in a single building, hence the title "How Can Architecture Contain All There is to Life?" There are so many things to consider when designing a building; from the cultural, historical, environmental contexts to deciding which materials to choose from and predicting how people would interact with the building. How can architecture answer all of these seemingly open-ended questions? I am still on a life-long quest to answer this. Using the interior shot of the National Assembly Building of Bangladesh by Louis Kahn, I portrayed the frustration I was feeling by depicting myriads of elements from historical buildings to imaginary beasts crammed into a single space. Louis Kahn's building was chosen for the drawing because of its ruin-like appearance and its geometric, archetypal aspects.
