A Pixelation
This Boutique Hotel, located in the heart of Washington DC, is surrounded by buildings such as the Hyatt Hotel, Central Library, and the National Museum. The project attempts to emphasize on such an important urban node by acting as an extrusion of the centralized space, simultaneously producing a diagonal connection meant to engage with the high volume of pedestrian interaction near the site. The design is derived from a method of architectonic pixelation, interacting with the design in several scales. As such, the drawing is meant to articulate the transformability within the various levels. Articulation of the pixels, as an emblematic element in the design, produces a flexible framework within which the upper components become the ceilings for units, and interior voids are developed, generating the auditorium. The landscape acts to engage people in varying volumetric experiences, as the accessible seating area ties the building into the urban texture.
