City in Building
Facing the challenge of sea level rise and the opportunity of future mobility, the project envisions an urban redevelopment on reclaimed lands at the coastal area in Financial District, Manhattan, which aims on creating a resilient system. At urban scale, a series of climate-resilient infrastructure, including canal, dike, and tidal marsh, are planned along the location of the current FDR Drive and on the reclaimed lands. At the building scale, an architectural prototype is proposed at the southern tip of Manhattan as a flood-proof building to accommodate societal-resilient communities for flood refugees. The architecture acts as an infrastructure that allows residents and the public to have access to different shared resources at city level, building level, and community level in order to create a lively and resilient society.
