Esfahan Convention Centre (Design Development Sketch)
Project: Esfahan Convention Centre
Location: Esfahan, Iran
Drawn by: Mark Panckhurst
Purpose of Drawing: Developed Design
Project Status: Under Construction
This is a freehand drawing of the pre-function area of the Esfahan Convention Centre in Iran. The drawing was done as part of the design development process.
The drawing is an exploration of the space between the inner crucible of convention hall (on the left) and outer disc of function rooms (on the right). The drawing took about an hour and was one of a series of explorations.
A large curved skylight continues the length of the space, flooding the space with sunlight and exposing the connection between the exterior and the interior. It was therefore essential to have a good understanding of how the architectural forms, materials, construction methodology and details (such as the Islamic mashrabiyah patterns of the precast panels) would translate into the interior space.
