The Dovecote-Granary
The Dovecote-Granary is a dying breed of vernacular architecture.
Built out of oak wood, decaying, it's part of a set of traditional buildings deemed not important enough for documentation or preservation.
Once they don't serve their agricultural purpose they are left to rot. And once they are gone, it's like they never existed.
They are amazing constructions, though, that create truly magical spaces that interact with their surroundings in unexpected ways.
This drawing aimed at illustrating that there are purposes beyond the agricultural functions and that these buildings can remain pertinent even after their original use is gone.
Their poetic value is more than enough to save them.
The experience of the dancing leaf shadows, the gentle crossing breeze, the birds chirping in a late summer afternoon... they can fully define their new purposes, functions, and uses.
