Ghat Galore
Inspired by the Indian Ghats and stepwells, “Ghat Galore” is a food-orientated Vertical Public Space which aims to cater to all sections of the society whilst tackling food wastage and the scarcity of vertical public spaces in our modern cities.
The project is on a forsaken piece of land, adjacent to the Berlin Charlottenburg S-Bahn station.
From major supermarkets, surplus food is collected and brought to the project, where the food is cooked by volunteers from the local community to provide meals for the homeless.
The drawing depicts a recycled timber construction with different levels of vertical public space. Thus, at the ground and first floor, a mix of indoor and outdoor retail outlets generate revenue for the project. The second and the third-floor house the community kitchens for the homeless.
As one moves vertically in the project, the price of the food decreases, therefore attracting people to go up.
