Shaping the Ageing City: Lisbon
Population ageing is poised to become one of the most significant social transformations of the twenty-first century, but older people are not, typically, incorporated into the mainstream of thinking and planning around urban environments. The project explores the scope for creating an ‘age-inclusive spaces’ for all generation embedded in the heart of Lisbon.
The drawing depicts the building's character which is for whom, how it is made of, and what it is a Portuguese local feature, in an abstract way. Portuguese local Azulejo pattern is applied to a screen outside of building skin, it gives a unique shadow pattern to the internal, which can be a symbol of the building as well as bringing the old memory for people. The materiality is also carefully considered that local marble is used for the floor, which can be easily found in the surrounding environment.
