Postcode 31

The slum dwellers in Buenos Aires’ Villa 31 experience difficulties with some of life’s most basic necessities such as having access to clean drinking water, sanitation, safety and basic shelter. Despite these challenges, there exists a thriving sense of community among residents. Postcode 31 aims to introduce adaptive and expandable modular housing that can be customised to suit the needs and wants of its residents. The design considers the downfalls of the existing urban fabric in Villa 31, as well as it's unique aspects that distinguish the area from any other, including narrow, winding streets which support diverse street life and encourage social interaction among residents. A teared modular system produces layers of connective surfaces, creating a channel of green space that spans across the rooftop of multiple houses, while the introduction of vehicle oriented lane ways provides an avenue for basic public services to have access to villa 31.
