Redwood Urban Landscape Study - 5
This drawing is from a series that contemplates a different approach to discussing the environment by studying extremely dense urban life integrated with landscaping to test maximum density. Our civilization faces an explosion of population and interconnection rooted in our instinct to grow. Scientific evidence and reason seem inadequate to convince about climate crisis. Visualizing a threshold, one that requires extreme resources and measures to be implemented, would hopefully foster broader discussions about alternate solutions, considering a longer look at our collective timescale.
In this study, urban scale structures are lined with utility distribution and topped with farms and gardens. Inspired by fallen redwoods, planting platforms and modular housing rise over spaces cast in beautifully filtered light akin to a forest pathway while a multilayered network of tensioned cables foster a personal transit system of automated smart pods, eliminating a reliance on the grid and allowing unprecedented three dimensional movement.
