Saint-Petersburg - city of banyas

Banya is a traditional Russian steam bath. Saint-Petersburg is said to be a city of banyas. It is a city that is based on Dutch planning and modelled on Italian classicism. Using banya as a type that defines the city, it presents Saint-Petersburg through the only Russian element that it has. All banyas from the drawing exist or existed in St.P.
The depiction of Saint-Petersburg as a masterplan of banyas refers to the tradition of the Nolli map, which consisted of public space. In this sense, the ‘banya map’ consists of different patterns of collective nudity in the city. The significance of banya typology is that it is relevant as both an interior form, and even as an urban model. Therefore, the drawing is represented in 4 by 4 meters detailed masterplan.
