"Developed Surface Drawing: Revised" by Zach Schumacher
An increased level of computational literacy and extra-disciplinarity continues to obscure the distinction between architectural drawings and images. Although our representational methods continue to evolve, the ruled surface maintains a significant role within architecture. The ruled surface has two unlikely allies: checkered sandwich wrap paper and the aftermarket automotive industry. By soliciting automotive finishing techniques we can hydrographically apply the checkered pattern to the surface of an architectural model - the literal application of a texture map. Emerging from the surface of the hydrographic bath, along with the newly checkered house, are hands tattooed with the same checkered pattern; a realization of the intersection between material composition, application, and fabrication method. This transaction between the ruled surface and the texture map is critical, as it allows us to adapt a documentary tool as a generative agent.
