"Artificial Bukit with Views" by Adib Zailan
Taking inspiration from the name of its locality, where "Bukit" directly translates to "Hill" in Bahasa, this terraced proposal for an ancillary educational building of a neighbourhood secondary school is to be an intervention introducing Cross-Laminated-Timber techniques to its predominantly concrete context.
Awash with sunlight, primary circulation at the North elevation conveniently leads to breakout spaces that afford opportunities for occupant interaction and respite.
Beyond the primary rationale as a means of insolation mitigation, the planting of native species within planter boxes on the East-West elevations also seeks to champion the ideals of a living building — where practicum and education can happen beyond the confines of a traditional classroom.
