"Barton's House" by Fabien DANICAN Anthony WU
The Barton house, conceptualized by Frank Lloyd Wright, was built in the state of New York in Buffalo between 1903 and 1904. Commissioned by Darwin D. Martin, Frank Lloyd Wright initially designed the Barton house in order to allow Martin to better judge the feasibility and the ideas of the architect.
The Barton house is a perfect reflect of the American prairie house style. The architecture itself is based on the J.J. Walser House that Wright designed in Chicago in 1903 but it is distinguished by a more organic approach through the use of natural materials.
The floor plan is cross-shaped, with living space concentrated in the centre of the two-story portion of the house located near the living and dining areas open into each other. Wright designed a cross-axial plan to lower the ground coverage and to incorporate farther the house into the designed surrounding landscape.
