"Weathering The Anthropocene" by Ian Soon
The drawing challenges the idea of a benevolent nature, and seeks to redefine architecture's role from providing habitable spaces to designing for climate resilient infrastructures. The story explores the communities living in close proximity to coastal waste infrastructures in Southeast Asia.
Born from the ashes of the landfill, the community process their waste into new building materials, aquaculture and energy systems, augmenting their natural environment into a cyborg ecology. Formerly at the mercy of the global waste stream, the new community thrive in their newfound livelihood and ecology, transforming into a high-tech material capital over time.
A society established from climatic emergency, the exploited labourers project themselves into a new material paradigm.
