"The Voyeurs" by Derek Clouatre
Birdwatching has become a popular pandemic past-time, but what if the roles were reversed? What if the birds gathered on a warm summer evening to take in how the city dwellers are coping with the newest public health measures? This work imagines the possible infrastructure that would enable this voyeurism from beyond city limits; an amphitheatre nestled into a hillock or escarpment, providing the perfect vantage to be entertained by our seemingly trivial daily activities. This modular system accommodates flocks and gaggles of various sizes, with birdbaths catering to single flyers or growing families alike. The retractable roof will help ensure that species with greater light sensitivities will still enjoy a pleasant evening out on the hill. Whether enjoying complimentary aquatic plants or wading in the landing pond, our feathered friends are bound to enjoy this pandemic project for years to come.
