"Air Travelers" by Kira Wong
“The Free Fall / Air Travelers” is a vintage analog collage that stitches together photographs of cities from an aerial perspective but at varying heights. This was intentionally done to give the viewer a sense of connection and disconnection, and to question the traditional bond between place and identity.
When I look at this piece, I wonder if the girl is flying or free falling or even hovering in suspension, waiting for the relief of familiar recognition of anything below. In a post-covid, technology driven world, does she have the same sense of place that previous generations had?
